DESCRIPTION:In collaboration with PAAM Sunday\, our Conferences are offering a webinar as a way to continue our learning and understanding of an amazing part of the United Church of Christ: Pacific Islander and Asian American Ministries (PAAM)! The purpose of this webinar is to expand our understanding of the diversity of the UCC and to promote dialogue with one another. Two very active members of PAAM will lead a brief and informational presentation and then there will be a time for Q&A so that participants may dialogue with the presenters. \nThe webinar will happen through Zoom on July 12th at 7:00pm CT. SUMMARY:Speaking Sacredly About Abortion
DESCRIPTION:The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice (RCRC)\, in partnership with Spirit of Peace United Church of Christ in Sioux Falls\, SD\, and the Tri-Conference ministries of the United Church of Christ\, present\, “Speaking Sacredly About Abortion.” After the Supreme Court’s ruling on June 24th that overturned a half-century precedent on reproductive rights\, many of us are left wondering\, “What now?” Many of us (both pastors and laity) are wondering how to speak about abortion with our congregations. Many of us are wondering how to speak about this with friends\, family\, and neighbors who might not agree with us. As people of faith who have taken up Jesus’s calling to work for justice\, how do we be the voice that advocates for abortion rights from the perspective of progressive Christianity? \nIf you have been asking these questions\, please join us. We will be honored to have the Rev. Dr. Cari Jackson\, the Director of Spiritual Care and Activism for the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice\, as our presenter. The topics for the program will include: \n\nUnderstanding Reproductive Oppression. Historical overview setting the stage for reproductive oppression today.\nLiberation Gospel. “What kind of society are we called to be?”\nSacredly Speaking. How to talk about abortion and reproductive dignity with family\, neighbors\, and coworkers.\nWays to Be Involved. Practical ways to make a difference now.\n\nYou will receive a zoom link for the webinar after registering. Dr. Cari Jackson: As RCRC’s Director of Spiritual Care and Activism\, Rev. Dr. Cari Jackson collaborates with religious and community leaders\, advocating for reproductive freedom as a vital aspect of human dignity and divine integrity. Cari seeks to help foster a society in which religious pluralism and cultural diversity are valued\, as she believes a society’s greatness is reflected in its demonstrated commitment to honor\, care for and nurture each individual\, especially those most marginalized. She coaches leaders to strengthen their capacity and courage as agents of social healing and transformation. She is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ Dr. Cari has a Ph.D. in Christian Social Ethics and is the author of several books. One of her current writing projects is a romantic comedy screenplay.
