Retreat – “A Decolonized Spirituality: Hearing the Spirit in Liberative Ways”

Join us as we recognize colonial patterns in our spiritual lives. Through silence, scripture and our life together we liberate ourselves into a deeper experience of the holy. Our hope is that as we grow in awareness about our own patterns we help our congregations and the communities around us to find their own liberation.
The retreat will be held at Creighton University Retreat Center from October 16th through the 18th. They will gather at 5 p.m. Sunday evening to spend some time getting to know one another before supper is served at 6 p.m. Learning will begin at 7 p.m. There will be time around sessions for processing on your own or with others. There should also be time for hiking around the grounds or taking a guided prayer walk with Jeanne. Weather permitting, there will be a campfire one night. There is a lovely labyrinth as well as other prayer gardens and a chapel.
Early bird registration is $200 and will be open until September 13th, regular registration is $225 and will be open until September 27th. Covid precautions will be discussed as the event approaches. Contact Jeanne Johnson for more details.
The guest presenter will be Rev. Juan Carlos Huertas, Minister of Proclamation and Practice of Justice at First-Plymouth Church. Juan Carlos Huertas is the Minister of Proclamation and Practice of Justice at First-Plymouth Church. He is a dad, husband, spiritual director, and pastor. Juan Carlos is a graduate of Louisiana College with a B.A. in Religion and his M.Div. is from Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. He loves preaching/teaching, leading the church into mission in their neighborhood, and hearing people’s stories. Juan Carlos is married to Shannon Perry Huertas, and they have three children. In his down time he likes cooking, spending time with the family, and reading.
