“The Red Sea Pedestrians” is Placerville Camp’s praise band, established in 1997.  Their name originates with the philosophy that the band is fluid, and whoever happens to be passing through when we play is welcome to join the band.  Currently, the core band consists of: Kerry Steever, Placerville’s Camp Director, as the drummer; his wife, Sharla Steever, as the lead vocalist; a family friend and long-time camper, Charles Paulson, as the lead guitarist; Kerry & Sharla’s daughter, Kylie Steever-Laki as the bassist and backup vocalist; and her husband, Dom Laki, as the tambourine and backup vocalist.  They love having campers and camp staff, past and present, join the band whenever possible.  The band is not performative, but rather creates the music for the children, youth, and adults at Placerville to join in and sing.  The Red Sea Pedestrians band has also brought praise music to churches across South Dakota for worship services and special events, as invited.  For JAM this year, the band will have Rev. Matt Richards joining in on guitar and vocals – Matt is a past camp staffer and was one of the founding band members, and they are thrilled that he is joining!  They hope to see you this September in Sioux Falls!
