Welcome to the Conferences
Welcome friends! As we often say in the United Church of Christ (UCC), no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here! As you navigate your way through our website you will find stories, resources, and connections that are intended to introduce newcomers to our beloved church, provide tools for seasoned leaders on church committees and boards, and offer points of interest to the many others in between. Make yourself at home here, reply to a story the insight you gleaned from it, and if you feel inspired to add and grow our ministry, find the Donate button in the main menu to make your contribution! We are glad you are here!
WHY are we called to be the UCC?
The Boards of Directors of the Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota UCC Conferences gathered with our Conference staff at a retreat in April 2019. Together we worshipped and discerned our WHY and HOW statements, naming WHY we are called to be the UCC in this particular time and place and HOW we intended to heed that call in each of our conferences. It was joyful work that now directs our planning and resources. Our staff and Boards of Directors will use these statements to guide our programs and work and to assess our progress in the years to come.
WHY are we called to be the United Church of Christ in this time and place?
To live into God’s extravagant welcome and advocate for justice.
So that all know love, safety, belonging and dignity.

Welcome from our Conference Minister
The UCC’s core values of continuing testament, extravagant welcome, and changing lives, invite us to continue to seek new ways of experiencing and sharing God’s radical love for us and for all of Creation. One of the great joys of our denomination, is the constant encouragement of our core values to keep listening, growing, and changing, in order to keep deepening our personal and collective discipleship of Jesus Christ. It is in that spirit that we created the partnership between the Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota UCC Conferences that began in January 2018.
We believe very strongly that whatever we do, we are better equipped to do it when we do it together! These three UCC Conferences are experimenting with a structure that employs one shared staff to serve the ministries of all three conferences. We know that there are a lot of functions that we can do together more efficiently than alone, such as shared trainings and administrative tasks. And there are many unique ministries of each setting that are better served by having a whole team of ideas, skills, and gifts available rather than a solo practitioner. Thus, the shared staff model was created!
We are excited for the ways that the Holy Spirit has already shown up in our work, revealing joy and friendships in new ways across our ministries! There have been, and will be more to come, some bumps along the road of this uncharted path, and we are thankful for the ways that members, churches, leaders, etc. have offered grace-filled feedback and prayers to the staff as we continue to learn how to do this well together. Thank you for your prayers and support of the exciting ministry of the United Church of Christ in the Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota Conferences!
